Anette G.

Annete G lost 161 lbs with the lap band- she shares some insights with Dr.Owens:

Aya

I have always been a fat kid in school.I have been on countless diets through my life. I would lose weight, kept it off for a short period of time, then gained it all back plus some more. My husband and I decided to try to start a family in 2005. We tried for two years (2005-2007) but without success. I believe this was due to the fact that I was diagnosed with diabetes back in the early 2006. My highest weight was 225 pounds, a lot for someone who’s only 5’4”. I was on a medication for Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. My doctor believes that diabetes caused my irregular menstrual cycle. In September 2007, I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). A cyst had formed on top of my nerves, with excess weight, the pressure pushes the cyst down on to the nerve, causing a sharp stomach pain. This is also a reason why my period was coming irregularly. I decided on Lapband surgery in the beginning of 2008. I had the procedure on May 12, 2008. Four months after the surgery I was down to about 185 pounds. My diabetes was gone. My period also started coming regularly. In October 2008, I found out that I was pregnant. I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy. I gained a total of 40 lbs during the pregnancy (20 lbs in the last month alone). My daughter,Kayla Bree was born on May 26th, 2009. She weighed 10 lbs 9 oz. One week after she was born, I dropped 50 lbs. Kayla is doing very well. The pediatrician said that she developed fast compare to another baby her age. I truly believe that I would not be able to have kids if I had not had a Lap Band Surgery.

“Dr. Owens truly saved my life. I have no doubt that the results of being morbidly obese would have ended my life. I had Lap band surgery on June 24th 2004, at the time I weighed 276 lbs...I have an ankle fusion and knee problems so the weight really caused great pain. I am currently 180lbs!!!!! I went from a size 26-28 to a current size of 14 and I am still losing. Since the weight loss I have so much energy and the joint pain has disappeared. Dr. Owens and his staff are wonderful, I have been seen at all 3 clinics, San Pedro, Chapman, and Alvarado. I have only great things to say about Dr. Owens as well as his staff. From reception to insurance as well as nursing his staff are professional and caring. Knowledgeable staff definitely makes the difference."

I’d wanted Gastric Bypass surgery for years but no one in my family would let me do it. I’d been morbidly obese for around 9 years. Everyone including my G.P. was completely against the Gastric Bypass. When I heard about the Lap Band I was so excited! Surely I thought that no one would object to this. I researched it, called different physicians and finally made an appointment with Dr. Owens. I just love him. It was slow losing weight and I was a little discouraged. Today I weigh in and I’ve lost 101 lbs!! I’m very close to my goal. I rarely think about food . When I do, I’m very conscious about what I eat. Dr. Owens has made this journey so much better than any other doctor could have! I drive 100 miles to see him, but I wouldn’t ever think about changing doctors; he’s worth the drive! Karen

I decided to get the Lap-Band procedure when i was only 17 years old in December of 2007. I decided to do this for my futue and self-esteme.Seeing part of my relatives being obesed and seeing how sick they were from being obesed, encouraged me to get the Lap-Band. I decided to get teh Lap-Band because i knew it was a safer choose in my age. Before surgery i came to weigh 256 Lbs. today after a year and a half i weigh 126Lbs thats a total lost of 130 Lbs!! Now in this new body I feel more energetic, my self esteme has gone up in a huge way. Im more active when i excersice. My emotions and view of the world and my suroundings have change. I see things more in the positive way and Im enjoying life more then i did before.

It was a struggle throughout my life with weight management. I tried all kinds of ways but in vain. When I was younger, my body could handle the excess weight, but as soon as I reached 40, I started getting other co-morbidities. I got Sleep Apnea, was lethargic, and was close to getting hypertension and diabetes. It was a no brainier at that time, that if this is not controlled and I did not reduce weight, I would eventually have more co morbidity’s like Arthritis, diabetes, hypertension which could lead to Cardio vascular diseases and more. That is the time when one of my doctors advised me of this procedure. I then attended different seminars, searched the internet and finally decided to get the Gastric Lap-Band done with Dr Owens. My pre operative weight was 255 lbs. and now it is 202 lbs.

September 5th, 2003 marked the turning point in my life along with the day of my Lap Band surgery. Prior to surgery I weighed 390 pounds. I had problems walking, sleeping and life was miserable. I tried everything to loose weight but long term success eluded me as the yo- yo effect saw a continued steady weight gain. I found Dr. Owens via the internet after researching local hospitals. His web site is awesome and explains everything. I attended the seminar then scheduled the required office visits. Blue Cross approved me for either procedure the Lap Band or Bypass. I own my own business and was concerned about down time so I elected for the Lap Band. I had the surgery on a Friday and was back at work Monday (typically more rest is recommended) feeling great. Weight loss was steady as I learned how to use my new tool. As of this writing I am down to 260 and have been stable for months. I am now able to return to past activities such as Kayaking and bicycle riding. I feel great and as my body continues to change and improve I will always remain grateful to Dr. Owens for helping me regain my life.

"What the lap band and Dr. Milton Owens have given me.

Dr. Owens and the lap band have been a true gift to me. I began this journey 257 pounds not able to walk across the street without stopping to take a break. I began this journey as a very sedentary person. I struggle with weight loss because I had my thyroid removed years ago and the lap band has helped me to lose the weight I had gained so quickly after my thyroidectomy.July 5th, 2005 that all changed for me thanks to Dr. Milton Owens. The surgery allowed me to lose weight and gain mobility with the surgical skills and gift of Dr. Milton Owens. I have accomplished a lot since my lap band surgery and the most exciting is that I am now a goal oriented person. I have attained quite a few goals since surgery. I have been a participant on a weight loss DVD Weigh2Win. I have completed a six month training/running program. I have completed the LA Marathon. In August I will attain my Bachelor's degree in management. This fall I will re-enter the profession of my dreams, I will be a Sixth Grade teacher! All of these and so many other profound moments in between have occurred thanks to my successful lap band surgery. I am so very thankful, grateful, and appreciative of Dr. Milton Owens and the gift he has provided me, thank you.

I had a year of fill treatments and I am happy to say I reached my 'sweat spot' or point of restriction June of 2006 and have maintained that to date. Each fill is an opportunity to spend time with Dr. Owens and learn more about the lap band. Fills have never been scary to me they have always been moments of opportunity, helping me to reach my goal 'restriction'. I am very happy to share my wonderful experiences with Dr. Milton Owens with anyone that asks. I have many times been seen lifting my blouse to show my five tiny scars or letting others feel my port which is funny in the mall or at Disneyland. I will do anything to ease someone's apprehension or recommend Dr. Milton Owens and lap band surgery. I am so happy I made the choice and chose Dr. Owens and Lap band surgery. July 5th, 2005 was my real day of Independence! :) Again, thank you Dr. Milton Owens for providing me such a powerful gift. A gift, I choose to use to the best of my ability each day of my life! "
